St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (Christine Farrow, Pastor) has become the first on the Peninsula to become an official Assembly Church of The Lutheran Council of Tidewater.  Becoming an Assembly Church, according to The LCT’s constitution, means the congregation’s leadership has read and agreed to abide by the constitution and by-laws, has agreed to appoint lay representatives, has agreed to be open to calls for volunteers, and has agreed to include support for The Lutheran Council in the church’s budget.  In St. Paul’s case, since the 2008 budget had already been approved, congregational leadership placed The Lutheran Council as an unfunded line item in the budget, with agreement to hold fundraising events during 2008 in support of the council.  A big Thank You to St. Paul’s for leading the way!

Community Outreach Opportunities

Wondering how you can support The LCT’s efforts to improve the community?  Here are some ideas for your consideration:

One simple way, without cash outlay, is the on-going Cartridges for Kids (CFK) recycling program for all non-profits.  Through this program, you can be good stewards of God’s gifts while generating revenue for The LCT’s ministries.  Simply collect printer and copier cartridges, iPods, PDA’s, laptops, and cell phones for recycling.  Then give them to your church’s LCT representative or place them in the designated location at your church or the LCT office.

Dreaming of fresh flowers on your table year around?  Once again, Norfolk Florist is supporting The LCT’s outreach by offering flower cards for $25 with $10 going to The LCT.  The card entitles you to a monthly bouquet of fresh flowers chosen by the florist for only a couple dollars per month.

Looking for an opportunity to better our communities by volunteering your time?  To quote a military recruiting poster, “We want you!”  Volunteers are always needed to assist with fundraising and no experience is necessary, just a desire to help.  It is a wonderful opportunity to get to know other Tidewater Lutherans while benefiting the area.

Please call the office at 623-1055 or email to lctoffice@cavtel.net if you can help or would like to learn more.

$20.00

Sometimes we just need to be reminded!

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill.  In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?"

Hands started going up.  He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this.

He proceeded to crumble up the$20 dollar bill.

He then asked, "Who still wants it?"  Still the hands were up in the air.

Well, he replied, "What if I do this?"  And he dropped it on the ground and started  to grind it into the floor with his shoe.

He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty.  "Now, who still wants it?"

Still the hands went into the air.

My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson.  No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not  decrease in value. It was still worth $20.

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the  dirt by the decisions we make and  the circumstances that come our way.  We feel as though we are worthless.  But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose  your value.  Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased,  you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you.  The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO  WE ARE and HOW WE ARE.

You are special - Don't EVER forget it."

Count your blessings,  not your problems.  "And remember: amateurs built the ark .. professionals built the Titanic.

If God brings you to it - He will bring you through it.
