Over the past fifty years each month has witnessed significant events in the life of the congregation. A synopsis of the history of the congregation can be summarized from the archives as follows:

First Council Installed (1/10/54)
First Communion Service (1/17/54)
Synod Home Missions Committee approved purchase of Military Hwy land (1/24/55)
Congregation approved phase one of the building (1959)
Congregation authorized purchase of Riverdale parsonage - 18 Raymond Dr (1/61)
Military Highway became Mercury Blvd (1/62)
New parsonage was readied for Pastor Lineberger (1/62)
First woman on Church Council - Margaret Ridenhour (1/63)
Council added new standing committee - Social Ministry (1/64)
Council purchased bulk mail permit (1/71)
First African-American members received (1/71 and 3/71)
Nancy Simon, first woman to serve as Vice President (1/76)
William Files became first lay President of the congregation (1/80)
Pastor Kuhn installed by Bishop Moyer (1/15/84)

February ---              

First Funeral - charter member, Mack Queen (2/55)
Pastor Lineberger installed (2/18/62)
Hope Lutheran organized (2/66)
Lectors from the congregation began reading both Old/New Testament Lessons (2/73)

March ---

First Service in the new building - 235 attended (3/6/60)
New building dedication service - 253 attended (3/27/60)
Joined Gloria Dei to set up food/clothing pantry (3/81) which became H.E.L.P. in early 1982

April ---             

Mission Pastor Lane became the first Pastor of St. Paul (4/1/54)
Council approved sponsoring a cub scout pack (4/62)
Second consideration given to starting a kindergarten (4/63)
Ground broken for the Nave (4/20/69) - Synod President J. Luther Mauney preached
Established "sister" church relations with Bethel Zion AME Church (4/72)
First banners used (Easter/1973)
Ground broken for office addition (4/77)
Office construction began (4/77)
First use of green hymnal for an entire service (4/79)

Otilia Irving Overstreet elected as first delegate to Synod convention (5/54)
Sponsored Cub Scout Pack (5/59)
Last convention of the United Lutheran Church (5/61)
Tenth Anniversay kickoff picnic (5/63)

Pastor and Mrs. Lane arrived (6/15/53)

Pastor Nussen installed (6/4/78)
Tom Hope finished Lutheran Theological Seminary (6/78)

Organizational Committee first met (9/3/53)
First Worship Service held at the Woman's Club of Hampton (9/27/53)
Broke ground for first phase of the building (9/20/59)
Don Golden played dedicatory organ concert (9/70)

Otilia Irving Overstreet became church treasurer (10/56)

Pastor Cofer reported average worship attendance "better than 100" (10/57)
Voted to purchase 1819 Gildner Rd as a church house (10/26/58)
Bonnie Rhyne (Synod) arrived to work on leadership training (10/62)
Council approved 7th and 8th grade girls as acolytes (10/70)
Garage constructed for storage (10-11/76)
Green hymnal introduced (10/15/78) - adopted in November
Church sold parsonage and adopted a housing allowance (10/80)

Constitution adopted, Council elected (12/13/53)
Organizational Service and first offering for the building fund (12/20/53)
First used red hymnal (12/6/60)
Pastor Lineberger issued a call (12/61)
Nave dedicated - J. Luther Mauney preached (12/14/69) (spire leaked)
Better lighting discussed in (12/70)
Pastor Shumate installed as Assistant in Special Ministries (12/75)
Twenty-fifth Anniversary celebration (12/3/78) - Weaver/Schantz wrote special anthem
6-note electronic carillon first used (donated by Helen Clark)
Congregation sold parsonage to Pastor Nussen (12/80)
Lutheran Church in America transitioned to the Evangelical Luteran Church (12/87)

Note:  After more than 30 years of leaking, the spire was replaced in 2002, and no longer leaks.
